Photo Album Changes

Hey all, I just wanted to let you know that I spent a great deal of time this afternoon and evening revamping the folders in the photo albums. Instead of using one folder for each day like I did in the past, I'm now grouping folders by month, in order to cut down on the sheer number of them. If there were any "events," they have their own folder as well. I think it makes navigating the photos a lot easier. Check it out and let me know what you think. Please note that I haven't made it all the way through 2007 yet so there are still some folders in June and July that use the old naming scheme.

As always, you can get to the photo albums by clicking the link on the right side of the page or just click here.

If you haven't already seen them, scroll down to see a few posts from today and yesterday with lots of Christmas photos and videos. Bye!

Christmas Photos

Most of you reading already know this, but as a head's up to those that don't, Marilu, Lucas, and I are heading down to Massachusetts tomorrow. Since I have 2 weeks off from work, it seemed wrong to just sit on my butt and do nothing but watch TV, drink beer, and play video games that entire time. Not that that wouldn't be fun, it's just that I'd feel guilty for not wearing pants for 14 days.

We head out midday tomorrow, and we'll be back early evening on New Year's Eve. Even though we'll probably be taking a bunch of pictures while we are down there, my mom's computer doesn't have the software I need to upload photos. As a result, Let's Make a Deal will be on break until Monday night/Tuesday morning.

Since I'm always one to cater to my reader, I leave you with a few more pictures before I make my departure. The first is a shot of the three babies (Lucas, Thierry, Logan) and their respective moms (Marilu, Tracey, Sheri) from the party on Christmas Eve. It was next to impossible to get all 6 people looking the correct way at the right time so Logan took the hit as the most devilish-looking in this shot.

This next picture of Lucas and I is very misleading. While at first glance, it appears he is overjoyed to be getting a kiss from daddy, in reality he is still screaming over the fact that we were trying to put a santa-type hat on his head when he is REALLY tired. However, it came out looking good so try and pretend it's the first scenario.

Here's a picture of our Christmas tree and the living room pre-gift unwrapping.

I love this next photo. It's just a really nice shot of Lucas with one of his presents (the one he tries to open with his mouth in the second video in the last entry, for what it's worth). If I was any better at taking photographs, I bet Lucas could win some competitions. So freakin' cute!

What would Christmas be without family photos? Since we haven't bothered figuring out the timer on our camera, there's one of Lucas with each of us. Though to be fair, it's not like he would look at the camera even if we did use the timer.

If you click on that second picture, you'll see Lucas's gift to me. Marilu made a coffee/tea mug that has an actual print of Lucas's handprint and footprint on it. Very nice. When I get back from Massachusetts, I'll take a couple photos of the coupons Lucas "made" for Mommy. I got a couple of tears out of Marilu when I gave them to her so I always count that as a good thing. :)

Finally, from earlier today, here's a picture of Lucas with his hair brushed forward. Doesn't he look a lot different?

Ok, that's all I have for now. Once again, Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year to all of you who I don't talk to before then!

Christmas Day!

I'm trying to type this with one hand since Lucas is sitting on the chair next to me so I'm going to keep this short. In keeping with the theme of the last post, here's 2 more videos from Christmas morning. In the first, Lucas take a unique approach to opening the gift I gave him. I'd like to start a tradition where I buy him at least one gift "from daddy," so to speak.

The second video was taken after all the presents had been opened and Lucas was sitting in the middle of his haul. It should come as no surprise that Lucas's method for attempting entry into his gift is via his teeth (or gums, as the case may be).

Christmas Eve at Tracey and Andre's

Last night we went to the house of our friends Tracey and Andre for a Christmas Eve dinner. It was the second year in a row so presumably this is going to be an annual thing. Let's just hope the icy roads don't decide to make themselves annual as well.

Last year, everyone was pregnant. This year, the babies made their first appearance. I have plenty of pictures, which I'll post later, but for now, I wanted to show off Lucas with his two friends, Thierry and Logan. They had us laughing our butts off while they sat on the couch, posing in their Christmas hats. For reference, from left to right, it's Logan (the oldest), Thierry, and Lucas (the youngest).

Since there's only about an hour left, Merry Christmas, everyone!

Video 1 - Lucas is hellbent on eating Thierry's hat.

Video 2 - Lucas has had enough and won't take it anymore.

I think Santa's on the roof

As it's quarter to midnight on Christmas Eve, I find it very unlikely that anyone will be reading this for at least 10 hours or so. If you are reading it sooner than that, I would highly suggest finding a hobby. That said, since I promised more pictures earlier, more pictures you shall get from the week that was.

Before I get to that however, I'd just like to announce that after 7 years of playing fantasy football, I FINALLY won a league. And to think I was going to trade LaDainian Tomlinson halfway through the season. Thank god that's one of the few impulses I didn't act on this year. For those of you who don't follow fantasy football or have no idea what I'm talking about, you're probably now a little bit dumber for having read this paragraph.

On to the pictures!

Never let it be said Lucas isn't expressive. Here's a shot of the happy kid in his Santa's Little Helper shirt from last Wednesday.

On Thursday, Lucas got a visit from our neighbor and their baby. Proving that memory is the first thing to go, I'm completely blanking on his name at the moment. Once Marilu sees this, I'm sure she'll remind me and I'll update the post. "Baby to be named at a later date" was born a few months after Lucas, but I think they are nearly the same length now. Lucas, future NFL fullback that he is, remains a much stouter baby.

A while back, Lucas received the toy in the picture below from Marilu's co-worker Jamie and his wife Christie. Lucas is still a few months from truly being able to appreciate it (i.e., ride it), but as you can see in the picture below, he still was able to have fun with it.

Remember a week or so ago when I complained about how much snow we received? Well, on Saturday, I shoveled a path on our back deck just to give you an idea of just how much freakin' snow Mother Nature has dumped on us in recent weeks. Marilu and Lucas are used for scale in the following picture.

Another photo for scale with Lucas and yours truly. And before anyone says it, yes, I'm getting a haircut very soon. I just find that a mop of curly hair does a fine job of keeping one's hair warm in the winter. :)

What's a huge mound of snow if you can't make snow angels? Or in this case, mini snow angels.

And to close out the outdoor shots, I figured I'd just let Lucas kick back and smile for the camera. He seems to do a good job of that most of the time. For what it's worth, there are several more outdoor shots in the photo albums, so be sure to check em out.

We'll wrap up this post with a couple of pictures of Lucas trying out the sunglasses I bought for $8 on Venice Beach a couple of summers ago during our vacation to California in 2006. The kid be stylin'.

We took a lot of pictures of Lucas, along with two of his friends, at the Christmas Eve party tonight so if I find the time tomorrow, I'll try and get those posted. Right now, I gotta run since someone has once again waited until the very last moment to wrap his presents.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Christmas is coming!

Ouch, I need to get on the ball here. We've taken lots of pictures (which, as always, can be seen in the photo album), but I haven't done much commenting. I blame it on the fact that I'm on Day 3 of a 2 week vacation from work. My company shuts down for the week of Christmas and New Year's, and because of the way the holidays fall this year, we have nearly a week and half of time off. I then took the remaining 3 days as vacation days so I basically get 2 weeks off for a mere 3 days of vacation. Gotta love it.

Whatever the case, it's made me lazy so let me throw up a couple of highlights from last week. We're about to head out to a Christmas Eve party, but when I get back, I'll post another entry with even more pictures (and perhaps a video or two).

Marilu joined a weekly playgroup in our housing area a couple of months back, and they had Santa Claus visit last Tuesday. Here's a picture of Lucas with the big guy. I should point out this is Lucas's third brush with Santa, as he's visited him in the mall as well as the time Santa was played by yours truly. It looks like they sprung for a beard that actually fit on this Santa.

We've been introducing Lucas to a variety of new foods in the past couple of weeks. I'll have to consult with Marilu to remember all of them, but the most fun to watch are some crackers called Mum Mums or some such thing. Since Lucas is basically feeding himself, it's amusing to see him try and get the cracker in his mouth.

I guess the other pictures will have to wait as I am being called by her royal highness. Talk at you all later!

So happy

I'm not sure if Lucas is just naturally photogenic or that I'm that gifted at capturing "oh my god, he's so cute" moments on the camera or maybe even some combination of the two, but here's the next in a long line of photographs that makes me wonder how someone that cute could have my genes. :)

In case you're wondering, the orange stuff around his mouth is Lucas's first experience with sweet potatoes. I think he was okay with them, don't ya think?

Winter Freakin' Wonderland

For those of you keeping score, Sunday (I speak in the past tense since it's now 12:35 AM Monday morning) was Lucas's 6 month in the world. Man, how time flies. Mother Nature saw fit to celebrate this most wonderful of days by dropping snow on us. A lot of snow. No seriously, a LOT of snow. So much snow, in fact, that this was the most snow I've seen since I moved to Ottawa and probably the most I've ever seen, save for perhaps my trip to Labrador a few winters back.

I decided to shovel in the middle of the snowstorm so that it wouldn't be quite so bad to shovel after it was over. Well, last time I checked (9 PMish), it was still snowing and the driveway looks pretty much like it did before I shoveled it this afternoon. Kinda makes me wonder how insanely high it would have been if I hadn't touched it. Marilu took a picture of me standing on our lawn, to give those of you not in Canada or the northern US good reason to avoid the north in the winter.

But enough about me. You came here to see shots of the half-year birthday boy. He started off the day by having some mushed up banana. Today was the second day he had it, and I gotta admit, it's been funny feeding it to him. Both times, he's really scrunched up his face on the first bite, which has caused us both to laugh. We tried to get it on camera, but after the first bite, it's like he gets used to it and then doesn't look quite so discomforted. Here's the face we like to get while feeding him since it means he's ready for the next bite.

Later on, Lucas got to sit with his mom and watch his favorite team go to 14-0 in the NFL. I keep saying he's a good luck charm since the Patriots have yet to lose since he's been born. :)

During the game, he spit up at some point and then wanted to keep the tissue we used to wipe his face. As per usual, it immediately went to his mouth.

Finally, this evening we did a photo shoot of sorts for his 6-month picture. We've got a picture frame, which has a space for each month of baby's first year, and space for a big picture in the middle, so each month we try to get a good picture of him for that. We took a LOT of pictures earlier, mostly playing around with the different camera modes and lighting, and I've selected some of the best to include below. If you want to see the others (most of which are similar), take a look at the photo album.

This night mode is a great one of his smile, but it does this weird thing with motion trails, as you can see with his arms and legs.

What would Lucas pictures be without a couple of his priceless expressions?

A couple more from the shoot:

We took a couple of videos too, which I'll try and remember to post tomorrow. You'll get to see such delights as Lucas pulling the hat off his head and then almost tumbling over the backside of the ottoman he's sitting on. Thank god for quick parent reflexes. :)

Sometime before Christmas, we're going to take several more pictures of Lucas in all his various holiday outfits, including a return to the snowman costume, so keep an eye out for that. Later all!

Face of the year

Gotta make this quick since we'll be heading to my company's Christmas party soon. I took several pictures of Lucas yesterday, and he had some priceless expressions, some of which are included below. I would suggest clicking on the pictures to see the larger versions. Enjoy!

Drugged out stoner baby

"Ya gotta be kidding me!"

"Hey! You want some of this?"

Apparently, he's doing his squirrel impression here, what with the cheeks filled with food.

And finally, no one likes to see a sad baby. (hint: he wasn't really)

Moving up in the world

Marilu put up our Christmas tree on Monday, and Lucas decided to pose for us beneath it:

Then he apparently decided to try and figure out what the big green thing above him was.

As you can tell in the first picture, Lucas's latest "milestone" is that he can now sit up by himself. Well, most of the time anyway. We still sit near him since every once in a while he likes to fling himself backward for no good reason, and I'm sure, carpet or not, that can't be good for a baby's noggin. I noticed today that Marilu is putting her feeding pillow behind him so even if he does goes for a backwards launch, he has a soft landing.

Tomorrow night is my company's Christmas party so I'm not sure if I'll be in any shape to type when I get home. I'll try to post some pictures beforehand since we got some great ones of him today, dressed up in a winter hat and boots. They are already on the photo album so if you absolutely can't wait, check them out there.

Ta-ta.

Lucas and Santa

As mentioned in previous posts, Saturday night was my company's kids' Christmas party, and I volunteered to play Santa. It was a pretty fun experience, other than the fact that Santa's beard didn't want to stay on very well. Heck, at the very beginning, the beard almost fell off altogether until the hostess pinned in to the hat.

Anyway, once we got that situated, the kids seemed to enjoy the experience. A couple of the older kids were skeptical, but the younger ones enjoyed sitting with Santa and getting their presents. In fact, it was amusing to see them get all excited when I first showed up, but then when I left, hardly any of them noticed since they were engrossed in their new toys.

Here's a couple of pictures from the party. The first is Santa leaving, and the second is with Lucas. Luckily, he's still too young to be scared of Santa or anything like that. Santa's just another person to hold him, even if that person has a predilection for crimson garments.

Marilu put up the tree yesterday, and we both decorated it so I should have some pictures of Lucas under it by tomorrow. Gotta run now since he's gnawing on my knuckle so I think he wants to eat. Later!

Christmas is coming!

This weekend heralded the official start to the holiday season, at least for us. My company had its kids' Christmas party, and we brought his royal majesty to that even though he couldn't tell you the difference between Santa Claus and the garbageman. I've uploaded two videos related to the party. The first is from the party itself, and while the video is a tad erratic, particularly when I pan around to show the partygoers, you do get to see Lucas having fun with a toy of some sort that I picked up from the floor. The second video is from this morning and shows Lucas playing with the toy he got from Santa at the party.

I'll have some photos from the party later, in which you'll get to see more of Lucas, not to mention yours truly as St Nick. Yeah, somehow they talked me into it. I knew this beer belly would come in use one of these days. For now, enjoy the videos.

Photo Travails

It turns out that you aren't allowed to scan professional portraits taken of you so we had to do the next best thing, and Marilu just took a photo of the photos we had done this past weekend, and we'll be using one of those as our Christmas card thingamajig. It's kind of stupid really since we paid for the portraits and we want to put one of the photos in one of those glossy things you put up on your fridge. However, we didn't like any of the styles they had at the place we took the photos so we were going to have them done at another location since they had better options. Well, after going to three different places today, none of them would scan the photos for Marilu since they are supposedly copyrighted. Inane and moronic, I must say, especially considering the fact that we're talking about some low-budget supermarket photo center.

Marilu's going to try at Staples tomorrow since I think they may have a business center that will allow you to scan your own photos and then we won't worry about the photo Nazis coming down on us with all their might. If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what we'll do since Canada (or at least this area of it) has nothing similar to Kinko's, which I know for sure lets you do everything yourself.

As I mentioned above, we're using picture of the pictures on our official cards so hopefully they will come out okay. I'm not going to post the family portrait since that'll ruin the surprise for those of you who get the picture from us via mail, but I will show the other two we had done of Lucas in the same session. The first one was a "serious" shot, and I think it came out pretty well.

The second one was a joke shot. I mean, she was trying to get a serious shot, but when we saw it, we just had to have it. You'll see what I mean below. His expression is priceless.

Finally, here's a picture I took of him in his swing from yesterday. Today's theme must be expressions since I think he's looking very devious here.

December is as busy as ever

Fear not, we're still here. It's just been a busy week at work, and Marilu hasn't had a chance to take any photos of Lucas so there's not a whole lot to post about. We did get our Christmas portraits done this past Sunday evening so that was something. We got them at a little photo studio that's part of a supermarket near us in Kanata. In my opinion, they weren't nearly as good as the portraits taken of Lucas with all the outfits, but then again, they were about a tenth of the price, so I suppose you get what you pay for. They're not bad, per se, it's just that Lucas wasn't in the mood to smile and the photographer couldn't get him to do so.

We had three different shots, but since we just have the photo sheets, we'll need to get them scanned before I can put them online. In addition, we may use our group shot in our Christmas card so if that's the case, I'll hold off showing that one.

Anyway, that's about it for now. I'll try to get a shot or two of Lucas tomorrow night before he goes to bed just in case any of you have forgotten what he looks like (and the thousands of photos in the photo album don't cut it).

The Week in Review

Never one to accept all the blame for something, I add Marilu to the list of people to point the finger at for the delay in getting a new post on here this week. I left Monday morning this past week, and when I got back Wednesday afternoon, I checked the camera and found no new pictures have been taken. So blame her completely for the lack of news, and try to forget the fact that I had more than enough time to take pictures and post new entries Thursday and/or Friday.

Since then, we HAVE taken quite a few pictures, all of which are now located in the photo albums (as always, see the link on the right side of this page). This entry is devoted to highlighting the best and brightest of those photos.

I like this next picture for two major reasons. First, I think it really shows that Lucas is starting to have his own look. Yeah, he's always been a unique (and quite cute) baby, but I feel he's really starting to look like a little boy versus just an infant. Second of all, as you can see, he's in his highchair, and this helps show that he's really taken to the whole "sitting at the table and eating with the adults" thing. Well, notwithstanding the fact that he is eating essentially mush. (And as a third point, the boy is a chick magnet, or so his bib says!)

Although he can't do it indefinitely, Lucas is now able to sit up by himself. We still have to sit near him since he has a tendency to fall on his side or fling himself backwards from time to time. Just doing our part to prevent dain bramage.

Marilu was playing around with the camera settings on Lucas earlier today. I like the way this black and white (sort of) one came out. The way the green shows up is kinda nifty.

As I mentioned in my last post, I spent a lot of money on Lucas during my business trip. The following picture shows what I consider to be the best of the best when it comes to his new outfits. I think it's safe to say that throughout the next few years, Lucas will probably have to suffer through several ridiculous costumes that I buy spontaneously. It's a good thing he has Marilu, who will more likely than not be the sensible purchaser in this family.

Despite the smile, Lucas didn't much care for his inaugural journey in the Frosty suit. It's a very warm outfit, which will make it ideal if and when we take him for walks in the Canadian winter. On the other hand, in a warm house, he heats up pretty quick in there and trust me, he let his know his withering opinion of the outfit. If you click on the following picture, you can see he's not too thrilled during the setup for this shot.

Earlier this evening, I put together a new shelving unit for Lucas's bedroom. Marilu took advantage of the moment to put Lucas in the box it came in. These pictures still make me laugh.

If he's anything like most boys, he'll like the boxes as much, if not more, than the items that come within them. Lucas also took the time to try out one of the containers that sit on the shelf.

Finally, for those of you lucky enough to live outside of the frozen tundra, here's an idea of what we get to deal with most mornings come wintertime. You're really missing out...trust me.
